The Dublin Dragon Boat Regatta

The Dublin Dragon Boat Regatta 2012 takes place on the weekend of Saturday, 15th and Sunday 16th September 2012 at Grand Canal Dock, Ringsend, Dublin, IRELAND. It is organized by the Irish Dragon Boat Association (IDBA) the Governing Body of the sport of dragon boat racing in Ireland. Within Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock, the Regatta Race Course will measure just over 500m in length and circa 150m wide with a water depth of 4–5.5m

Race Day 1

Today was the first racing day of the 2-day weekend regatta. The Busters won the “Squigee Award” for the most colourful and energetic display of team spirit. They demonstrated their energetic line dancing skills under the red posts that you can see in the background.

Race Day 2

From the vantage point next to the finish-line tent, one cannot see the start of the race very well. In the photo on the left (above), everything looks good – the Dragon Busters are off to a great start. Then a collision between the Purabelles’ boat and the Dragon Busters’ boat took place. Miraculously the DB’s managed to recover after being hit three times and somehow finished the race.

Close finish! (...anyone notice boat #1's head is a tail?)

Everyone seemed to prefer sharing the race basin more with the swans (left) than the amphibious Vikings (right) who were partial to pillaging most of the races.

Time for a quick snooze between races...
