The Great Send-Off Party

There had to be a suitable send-off for the Dragon Busters as they head out for The Dublin Dragon Boat Regatta 2012 which will take place on the weekend of Saturday, 15th and Sunday 16th September 2012 at Grand Canal Dock, Ringsend, Dublin, IRELAND. And below is a taste of the festivities. Line Dancing in style: Could the Dragon Busters possibly have a more spectacular send-off celebration than tonight? Steve and Donna Hynes hosted the memorable evening, even allowing the rambunctious Dragon Busters to vent in full EEEE-HAA mode the line dancing they have been practicing for the past several weeks for Ireland. The video below displays the (somewhat mixed) skills in this department, but clearly demonstrates the wonderful spirit that soon will be leading us all to the Green Isle.

The Dublin Regatta is organised by the Irish Dragon Boat Association (IDBA) the Governing Body of the sport of dragon boat racing in Ireland. Within Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock, the Regatta Race Course will measure just over 500m in length and circa 150m wide with a water depth of 4m – 5.5m.

The Plurabelle Paddlers (Ireland’s first Breast Cancer Survivor Crew) have helped organise the regatta’s social events, including the Irish Shin Dig they have planned for the 15th.

Kathy Brett sums the Send-Off party held September 4th:

Thanks for the most lovely evening tonight Marian. What a wonderful and special send off and time to share. Wonderful place thanks to Donna and Steve. And food and drinks were sponsored thanks to Marion’s company. The caterers (Dave and Barbara Goelst from Manna of Taste) did a great job on our Irish theme…creative and tasty! even the popcorn was the colour of the Irish flag!

We rendered our line dance (Janet W. arriving just in time) in the ballroom before desert, and were showered with meaningful gifts: Gail Miles’s son donated backpacks for us (enough for the whole team not just Ireland travellers – so touching); Marion’s friend gave us friendship green bags; and Mary Merrit (DB Alumna) brought soaps. Corinne had ticket info. Thanks and thanks.

The Ireland Crew and Supporters

Traditional Irish stew and soda bread was so good!

Host Donna Hynes talks with Dragonbusters. Stephen Hynes mentioned that his family come from Galway in Ireland and the family name originally was O'Hynes!
